sad day for co-worker

A guy at my work had his car stolen yesterday in the middle of the day, which is too bad, but the cards were kind of stacked against him. His car was about 300 feet from the freeway facing an on-ramp, his window was rolled down and key was in the glove box.

UPDATE: 12:00PM. So it seems that a second coworker here just so happened to see the stolen car on his way into work. The victim drove down and found it was his car! Yay, how great and how random. The car was almost out of gas so the victim drove it right back here to work.

UPDATE: 4:30PM. So the thief kept the key. How do we know this? Well the car was stolen again. Just now, right out of the parking lot. I have to say, he’s got a lot of guts. I wonder if they will find it again.

I’m not making this up, people.

UPDATE: A week later. So we just found out that apparently there is a halfway-house on our street. The car was parked in front of the halfway-house, facing the freeway on-ramp.

we got a new car!

That’s right. We got a new car. Its a shiny VW Jetta. It’s just like I’ve always dreamed it! We got a great deal on it. Yay Little Silver #2.

family update

We still haven’t bought a car. Timber and Georgia from our church are letting us borrow their Toyota. It has has been a huge blessing.

We just found out that Ashley is going to be laid off in March. That is stressful on many levels but particularly because the housing market is poor right now and we would have a hard time selling our condo. Thankfully we have time for her to find another job and some opportunities are already cropping up. If Ash has to find a new job soon she may just get a job in Pasadena. Then we could commute there together until we can move down there.

poor big white

So on Saturday we went to the camera store and looked at cameras and then we went to the puppy store and looked at puppies.

Since our crash, Retta has graciously loaned us her truck until Thanksgiving. As I was driving and talking to Ash about puppies. I pulled into our parking spot a little too tight and put a few scratches and a dent in the passenger side of Retta’s truck. *ugh*.

We drove it straight to the auto-body place and he told us that it would cost $550 to fix it and then we have to also special order the $50 decal from the dealer. We dropped the truck off Sunday night and were without a vehicle again for the next couple days.

I feel bad because we had to cancel Ash’s birthday trip to Disneyland.

A good thing though is that we found out that our car is totaled. I know that might sound weird, but its better this way. Instead of having to get the car fixed and have it break down sooner, we’re now going to get some money from insurance and we’ll have a little over for a down payment on a new car.

I want to get a Passat or Jetta, but we may have to get something cheaper.

poor little silver

I was in an accident tonight. I was leaving to get Nate from the train, and I stopped at this stop sign and looked and I saw a car but it was a long way away, so I proceeded into the intersection. Somehow the car was instantly upon me and crashed into the front left corner of our car. Poor little Silver. I was shaken up but totally fine and thankfully the people that crashed into me were nice. We exchanged info while Nate’s dad picked him up from the train and drove him to ‘the scene’ where our car was still crashed in the road. After we cleared the cars out of the road a cop showed up (a half hour after Nate called 911 and was put on hold) and took down our info and stated to me, “Well, it was clearly your fault. Failure to yield.” Just the words you want to hear from a cop at the scene of an auto accident. So now we’re facing the task of insurance, towing, the fun of getting to work with no car etc… I’m still a bit shaken but trying to not stress out know that God has absolute control over all situations and so thankful to Him that there were no injuries to people, just cars. Like Nate’s dad kept reminding me, it could have been a lot worse and the worst thing we’re having to deal with right now is paperwork, some money and logistics of getting from here to there. Not that bad.
